By now you must know the lucky guys who made it into our Nineties Pinups top 10. However, we thought it was only fair that we honour the hotties who bared their Pecs in Smash Hits long enough to warrant some kind of recognition; I just hope they aren’t too bitter about not making it into the hotly fought over Top 10!
So, in no particular order, our commiserations go out to;
Ronan was the lovely frontman of what can only be described as the most successful boy band of the 1990’s - Boyzone!
Although my favourite has to be Stephen Gately, I am willing to admit that the most popular choice of teenage girls was Ronan himself; with his floppy blond hair and Irish charm, he was extremely difficult to resist.
Even better, Ronan isn’t just stuck in the nineties, oh no, he and the other Boyzone crew are back on top form having just released their comeback single; I must admit though the years haven’t been overly kind to some of his other band members…Stephen still looks edible though!
Who could resist ‘the fat dancer from Take That‘? Okay, maybe Liam Gallagher and his cronies could, but come on, what do they know about good looks?
Robbie was always overshadowed by Gary Barlow (the boring one) and the other guys who just seemed to make up the numbers. However, when he left the group in 1995 to go solo he quite successfully went ‘up yours’ to the other guys as he made better music and looked far hotter.
He became a poster staple in girls magazines and was many a figure of girls’ imagination as they planned their weddings… and when he stripped down to his pants in Rock DJ I was totally sold…besides, who can resist his naughty smile?
I must admit I didn’t follow the crowd when it came to S Club 7 either as I fancied Jon Lee (the one who seemed a bit gay) despite that all my friends wanted to marry Paul Cattermole and kill Hannah Spearitt. (his girlfriend at the time)
To be honest, all the guys from S Club were pretty hot, including Bradley McIntosh, but it was Paul who seemed to attract the most female attention, although I think that was purely because he was taken!
When Steps came onto the scene it was clear that they were a manufactured pop band with undisputable good looks and charm. However, Lee had it by the bucket load (as well as a super hot body to go with it!)
Once again, I preferred ‘the gay one’ - who is actually gay now! - Ian ‘H’ Watkins, but this isn’t about me, and I’m willing to admit that Lee was (and still very much is) totally divine and can have a place on my ‘man wall’ any time.
Dane Bowers, now there’s a hot man I agree with! He had the body, the eyes and when he sung Freak Me with its suggestive lyrics I thought I was going to explode.
He was, without a doubt, sex on legs. But sadly, he was overshadowed by many of the cheesy, floppy-haired boys who swapped cheesy lyrics and dance moves for fame and fans.
How could we leave the guy with the best body in the business out our of wonderful top 10 I hear you cry? Well firstly because he looked like a human version of Barbie’s boyfriend Ken, and secondly, because us ladies at FemaleFirst prefer guys with brains and beauty and poor Pete was lacking in the grey matter department.
However, come to think about it, his face isn’t really that pretty either; it might be a paper bag moment!
And finally, we are sorry to say that the stunning Nick Lachey missed out by the skin of his pretty white teeth - I know teeth don’t even have skin on them…(why do people say that?!)
The only excuse I have for this is that he just wasn’t as famous as the other guys and therefore didn’t get enough press until he married Barbie Simpson, I mean Jessica.
Well if he’s back on the market now he can be my life-size pin up any day!
So there we have it; the hottest guys of the 1990’s in all their glory. Who exactly do we have these days to have a good perve on? The only fitties can be found in the form of Justin Timberlake and other fashion-conscious singers. Ah, they just don’t make them like they used to anymore!
