One True Voice

While Girls Aloud are constantly topping the charts, making countless TV appearances and interviewed by glossy magazines it's easy to forget that they are in fact the product of a reality TV programme. It is even easier still to forget that Popstars: The Rivals, the show which created the group also featured a male group, One True Voice.

After surviving audition after audition and the public vote, the two groups battled each other for the coveted Christmas number one in 2002 and One True Voice were the bookies favourite. After all it was mostly young girls who watched these programmes so why wouldn't they vote for five fit young guys? However while Girls Aloud premiered their fantastic edgy pop single Sound of The Underground it was clear that the boys just hadn't come up with the goods. Another generic love ballad, Sacred Trust. It could have been released by anyone.

Although it did manage to reach number two things did not get better for One Tree Voice. Six months later, in June 2003, they released their follow up single Shakespeare's (Way With) Words which somehow still managed to make the top ten, barely though at number ten.

A few weeks later it was announced that Daniel Pearce, who as arranger and co-writer of some of their songs was considered by many to be the most talented, had quit the group to pursue a solo career. The next day the group split.

All the former band members continue with musical projects.

Daniel Pearce continues to release downloadable music.

Matt Johnson signed a solo contract with Polydor Records but he never released an album or single and is thought to have left the label just a few months after signing for them. Most recently, Matt started a new 5-piece band called State Warning.

Jamie Shaw signed to RNM, a German label and Toured with US5 in 2006 and is set to release the album Different. He has done some TV presenting on local Welsh television.

Keith Semple initially reformed the Keith Semple Band, which he was a part of before One True Voice, then fronted the band Alibi. He is now based in Chicago and performs with the band 7th Heaven.

Anton Gordon is said to be continuing with musical projects.

Matt and Anton both later auditioned for The X Factor. Matt made it to the Boot Camp stage in 2004, but Anton did not make it through the preliminary screening when he auditioned in 2006.
