Trevor Nelson Responds To BBC Complaints

Michael Jackson’s memorial was supposed to be a time of quiet reflection for the millions of people who tuned into the BBC, but instead the whole event was marred by two commentators.

With the number of complaints at the shocking attitude of ‘presenters’ Trevor Nelson and Paul Gambaccini which have been posted on my Michael Jackson Tribute Ruined By BBC Commentators blog, it’s odd that Trevor Nelson has in fact praised his efforts on his BBC blog.

Posting at 11am yesterday, he should have already had an idea of the backlash his crude comments and uncalled for jibes have had on the BBC, but nevertheless, he claimed; “I think we did a fair job, I got so many texts immediately saying 'well done'. Overall I think the ceremony was quite tasteful and it rammed home that a family had lost it's son, albeit an incredibly famous one.”

Although it’s it though that Paul Gambaccini was the main instigator of remarks such as “its their party” and “I thought she was going to go one forever” and worst of all, “There’s her public TV debut” about Paris’ emotional speech, with the number of comments on our Michael Jackson Tribute Ruined By BBC Commentators blog, it’s surprising that the BBC haven’t published an apology for their behaviour.

He goes on to say; “it was actually quite emotional for me as a fan of Michael's music, especially seeing Stevie Wonder and Usher performing. I felt at any moment the entire thing could go hideously wrong and that millions of his fans would be sensitive to every word that came out my mouth.” so, why then, did he let the snide comments come out of his mouth and not pull his co-presenter up on it either?

It’s easy to say that he thinks he did a fine job, but as the public seem insulted by the reporting of this experienced reporter, the question remains as to whether he indeed do a “fair job.”
