S Club Juniors

S Club Juniors

The group included Jay Asforis, Daisy Evans, Calvin Goldspink, Stacey McClean, Aaron Renfree, Hannah Richings, Frankie Sandford and Rochelle Wiseman and were chosen to form the group from thousands of hopefuls on the S Club Search show. Wowee.

The bad news for S Club 7 was that, although the kids were originally only intended to be a support act at Wembley Arena on the adults Carnival Tour, they ended up blagging their own documentary series, and in turn, their own hits.

Teenage Success

Their first single, One Step Closer was released on 22 April 2002 and locked horns with the Sugababes who released their comeback single the same day. At first it looked like the kiddies might have pipped them to the post, but over the weekend sales dipped and  managed to sell only 73,000 copies, compared to the Sugababes' 85,000.

Their second single was Automatic High and was unleashed on the public on 22 July 2002, and again, reached number two in the singles charts, the same went for single number three, New Direction which was released on October 7 and became their third consecutive top ten hit, selling 130,000 copies in six weeks.

Their debut album, Together was released a few weeks later made it to number five in the first week of release. The album also spouted the band’s fourth single, Puppy Love/Sleigh Ride, their first bash at a Christmas single, which made it to a respectable number five.

Time To Grow Up

The band started work on their second album in January 203, and the first single to be taken from it was Fool No More, which was released on June 30 (my birthday… woo!) and reached a great number four in the UK chart.

The follow-up was Sundown, which hot the shelves on 29 September and again, reached number four in the charts, however, their full album of the same name received very negative reviews, and only managed to make it to number 13 in the UK charts before falling to 40 in the second week of release.

Continuing their downhill slide, their next single, Don't Tell Me You're Sorry, was released in the UK on 29 December 2003 and became their first single to chart outside the top ten, only managing to claw its way to number 11 in the singles charts.
After this shock, their management decided it was time to send them in a different direction, and sent them back as cast members in the BBC children's television show I Dream. Unlike the S Club 7 shows which focused upon the band's fictional exploits, I Dream saw S Club 8 as members of a larger cast… however, this just wasn’t enough to salvage the group and not long later, it was time to call it a day…

Where are they now?

Calvin Goldspink

Calvin auditioned to be in the S Club Juniors at the tender age of 12, but now, at 20 years old, he has been in one series of Life is Wild for the CW network and is currently living in Los Angeles whilst working on an album.

Jay Perry Asforis

Jay Perry Asforis was trained at The Susi Earnshaw Theatre School and attended Roding Valley High School. Proving he was a success before the juniors, he made his West End debut in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Whistle Down the Wind at the Aldwych Theatre in 1999-2000.

Daisy Rebecca Evans

Daisy didn’t do very much until 2007, when she joined the "Score Angels"; a group of football cheerleaders who are sponsored and organised by the News of the World.

However, she hasn’t given up on her music career completely, and is a member of five piece group, From Above, who have toured the UK, performing in more than 60 clubs and are signed by Matthew Knowles and Music World Records.

Stacey McClean

Local girl (to FemaleFirst anyway) Stacey has just recorded a new single, I See You, which she claims fit’s into the ‘dance’ genre, but also likes to be known as an r&b singer… well I guess you might add as many strings to your bow as possible when everyone is desperate for work.

Aaron Paul Renfree

Aaron was the oldest member of S Club 8 and had to take a bit of time of during their heyday to study for his GCSE’s, bless him. After S Club 8 split in 2004, he joined dancing company TK Spin, where he stayed for a year before going on to join dance group Jongleurs, created by Aaron and Courtney McGrath.

He recently played the part of Dandini in Cinderella, Assembly Halls Theatre, Tunbridge Wells and he appeared in Flashdance the musical from July 2008.

Hannah Lorraine Richings

Hannah was the youngest member of S Club 8, but the poor thing was never given a distinct solo on any released tracks during her time in the group. Since the disbanding of the group, she participated in Miss Teen Queen UK in early 2007 and went back to school to complete her GCSEs.
[edit] Frankie

Frankie Sandford

Frankie was the second oldest member of S Club 8 and was one of the group's more prominent singers. Since the band went their separate ways, it was clear she was going to have a bash at a solo career.

She uploaded two of her own tracks to her MySpace music page, called Bored and Swallow, however, before long she auditioned to be in the group, The Saturdays, and they toured with Girls Aloud in May 2008 as the support act for the Tangled Up Tour.

Rochelle Wiseman

Rochelle Wiseman‘s first bit of success since leaving the group was on BBC Two quiz show Never Mind The Buzzcocks which saw her show up as part of the show's  Identity Parade feature, where contestants guess which person out of a lineup of five was featured in an old music video played only to the audience and viewers.

She also modelled for Love Me Love My Clothes and took part in the Miss England contest, finishing in third place… but it was music that was her passion and now she combines being beautiful and singing as a member of The Satudays.

So now you see, there is life after death for some popstars.
