You HAVE To Check Out Lonely The Brave

It’s kind of become part of my job as a music journalist to have almost everyone I meet tell me I have to check out this band or that band… so when someone told me to give Lonely The Brave a whirl I thought ‘here we go again….’

But I was so wrong; after checking out their MySpace page, which already has a impressive 551 friends (552 when I’ve finished writing this) I am an instant ‘fan‘ - don‘t you hate that word, ‘fan‘? it makes me sound barmy..

Anyway, listening to the tracks on their MySpace got me wondering, why on Earth are there not more bands like this around at the moment? And more importantly, why are we making a huge fuss about whether or not Joe McElderry get’s the Christmas number one off the back of winning a talent show when there are bands like this who deserve to be in the top 40, but are overlooked by the Simon Cowell circus.

Let’s face it, if this band (or in face if Rage Against The Machine) entered The X Factor, they probably wouldn’t make it to the judges houses, as tuneless twins such as John And Edward Grimes fill up the places simply for their ‘entertainment’ value, whilst people with actual talent are sent packing.

These four blokes from Cambridge seem to have restored my faith in music at a time when the focus seems to be on which girls can get in the smallest santa outfits and which blokes can screw as many women whilst their wives sit at home with the kids.

Now, I don’t know LTB personally, so I could be wrong to assume they don’t participate in either - but they look like pretty upstanding members (no pun intended) of the community, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

So, if you’re looking for a band to stick your money on making it in 2010, for God’s sake don’t go for someone like Jedward - spend your hard-earned cash on making a difference to a band who really deserve it, and don’t just expect it to come to them. Oh and of course, who are bloody awesome at the same time.
