Boy George has confirmed he is reforming his hit band Culture Club next year, and the iconic pop group will start working on a new album in January.

The hitmakers haven't put out any new material since 1999 but the singer has confirmed they will start writing the album in January.

He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "It will be a new record, completely new. There's no point just doing it for nostalgia ... We're certainly going to do it."

The group's guitarist Roy Hay met up with Boy George last week in Los Angeles to discuss plans, and Culture Club are aiming to record the new record early next year ahead of a release later in 2014.

The 'Karma Chameleon' quartet - completed by Mikey Craig and Jon Moss - could end up working with Brian Eno, famous for producing music by the likes of Depeche Mode, Coldplay and U2.

Boy George said: "There's some interesting ideas about who we want to work with. It's got to be really good."

The 52-year-old musician previously opened up about returning to Buddhism and how it helped him stay sober.

Recently asked if he misses drugs, he insisted: "No. No. I really took that to the ultimate conclusion. The last time I was out doing what we call 'research' I was thoroughly miserable but I couldn't stop myself.

"This is the curse of being an addict - you do something that's thoroughly unpleasant and you keep doing it. The difference between now and then is I know I'm an addict now.

"I went back to Buddhism last year. I messed around with it in the 80s - it was cosmetic then - but I'm really into it now. Chanting is all about polishing your mirror. What do you want to be? I feel like I'm out of chances; people have forgiven me so much, I can't let them down again."

George has been promising this since 2010. It never happens. More of the same empty promises.

    I bloody well hope so!
My partner is disabled and can hardly get out of the house these days, but we were both mega fans!
I told him that i would pay for a cab to the venue and a cab back again and i will make sure that we have really decent seats to the concert!
It's the only reunion concert that interests us both!
