Nas Recording with Damien Marley

Queensbridge rapper Nas recently talked about an album he has in the works with one of the sons of Reggae legend Bob Marley.

The man who declared Hip-Hop dead in 2006 will be teaming up with Damien Marley on a new album which is expected to be completed this month. It is unclear which label the album will be released under as Nas is signed to Def Jam and Marley signed to Universal and as of yet the album is untitled; but it is expected that the duo will take to the road for a Summer concert to promote the album they have been secretly recording in LA for the last few months.

Nas was up for Best Rap Album at this years Grammys this weekend but was beaten by Lil Wayne who picked up four awards for music from his Carter III album.

Live Nation merges with Ticketmaster

Two of the biggest companies when it comes to artist management, concerts and ticket sales announced their merge yesterday.

Ticketmaster and Live Nation will come together in a deal which is estimated at over $2.5 billion this year which will help ease the stress on the live entertainment industry during the recession which has taken the jobs of many music label execs over the last six months.

"Being able to put Live Nation and Ticketmaster into an equal partnership will allow the companies to get through this difficult period and be able to expand live entertainment options to audiences throughout the world," said Ticketmaster Chairman Barry Diller.

The merge however of the two power houses will not be without its critics as to some a merger of this nature may have adverse effects on those outside the deal. Live Nation have names like Jay Z and Madonna on their books, Madonna being the biggest earner when it came to shows last year in the world.

DMX in more hot water

Even when he is in prison for 90 days, rapper DMX still manages to cause trouble according to Phoenix newspapers.

The rapper has been put on a diet of bread and water with only one hour a day outside of his cell after causing a ruckus in the Tent City jail where he is currently being held after being charged with various offences including drugs and traffic offences.

The rapper had refused to report for work within the facility and had insulted numerous prison wardens with his tirade that he expected ‘respect.’ DMX is scheduled to be releasing a Gospel album when he is released in the Spring.

Q Tip links with Playboy

Former A Tribe Called Quest front man Q Tip announced this week that he has partnered with the notorious Playboy magazine for their Rock the Rabbit music edition which hits shelves this Friday.

The Renaissance man has also designed a T-shirt using the Playboy logo which can be found on the magazines website, shopthebunny.com which donates part of the proceeds to a designated charity.
