After conquering America and the rest of Europe, the Scots’ new single, ‘New Mexico’, suggests they are on the right track to success back home in the UK

‘New Mexico’ is the second single to be taken from The Cinematics ‘ highly-anticipated second album, ‘Love and Terror’, which after the international success of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘A Strange Education’, and preceding the demise of their US label TVT, portrays the The Cinematics as a newly-developed indie band with a fresher outlook on life, love and politics.

‘New Mexico’ is the perfect example to showcase the advancement of the band.  The single is clearly fuelled by the passion, honesty and anguish of vocalist/guitarist  Scott Rinning, who displays frontman-like qualities of those similar to the late great Ian Curtis, which when combined with the band’s input of perfectly executed drum beats, driving bass riffs and unique guitar wails really makes the new single something of a little gem really.

The Scottish quartet was off the UK radar for some time before releasing the first single from the new album (also called ‘Love and Terror’) earlier in August. Despite regularly selling out huge-capacity venues across the US and mainland Europe, the band struggled to gain full media attention here in the UK whilst their US-based label, TVT, was collapsing under an unrelated legal battle.

The Cinematics were recently picked up by The Orchard who is keen to avoid making the same mistakes their previous label had made with them during the first release. The band themselves are certainly pleased to be releasing their new material on a label that is more than happy to push for worldwide exposure, as opposed to just in a couple of territories.

Scott Cohen from The Orchard says:‘Just as much as the band, we’re very determined to make this album a success in the UK as well as the rest of the world. The band have global appeal and we’re in a good position to be able to the get them everywhere including in their home turf.’

The Cinematics recently played two back-to-back London shows and are currently promoting their new album on tour in Europe. Their latest single, ‘New Mexico’, is out on the 14th of September with the new album, ‘Love and Terror’ released on the 6th of October.
