14th August sees the release of Matts Costas second UK single SWEET THURSDAY, which is taken from his highly acclaimed debut album SONGS WE SING.
Having first toured the UK as a guest of Jack Johnson, Matt followed this last month with his own sold-out headline tour which showed growing interest in the OC Native. Its not often a terrible injury can be considered a positive thing but you might able to make the argument for singer-songwriter Matt Costa. Well on his way to a pro skateboard career he shattered his leg at 19 in an accident. Facing 18 months of rehabilitation he redirected his energy, passion and talent towards the guitar, a much safer hobby.Eventually homemade demos earned Matt the attention of No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont (who offered to record more demos at his home studio and went on to produce the album) and multi platinum surf folkie Jack Johnson (who signed Matt to his label). When you hear Songs We Sing youll hear why. From the evocative life snapshot of Cold December to Sweet Thursday which combines a crunchy Beetlebum-y riff, Matts singular gift for taking the listener away to a different place (happier, more optimistic, better!) marks out an urgent new talent. Oh Dear reassures, sweetly, In spite of all the things I said, I always want you near, set to the finest melody not to feature on The Beatles The White Album. And Lullaby, the sort of record that immediately becomes a best friend; sometimes acoustic, sometimes rocking out, but always sung with heart. (An alternative version of this track is featured on the Curious George soundtrack, which finds Matt dueting with Jack Johnson to mesmerising effect).0Comments | Be the first to comment!
