I had to choke back the tears this morning when I heard that British indie rockers Stereolab are splitting up after 19 years.
Shocking, I know, but apparently it’s only a temporary separation whilst bandmembers spend some time working on other projects, but as a result, the group have scrapped two final shows so the hiatus can start immediately.
Manager Martin Pike reveals, "We feel that our work is done for the moment. We have had to cancel the last two shows that we were scheduled to play, apologies to all that had bought tickets, and there are no plans to record new tracks. We are all going to have a bit of a rest now after nearly 19 years and work on a few other projects."
In 2002, the band was rocked by the death of singer Mary Hansen, who was struck by a truck while cycling in London. They have only released one album - 2004's Margerine Eclipse - since the tragedy.
