2010 is set to be a massive year for South Africa with the Rainbow Nation hosting this year’s World Cup and it is also set to see the continent’s most celebrated rock band The Parlotones cross-over and gain widespread international success with their forthcoming album ‘Stardust Galaxies.

The band are honoured and delighted to have been picked for what FIFA are calling the greatest entertainment event to date in Africa, the Kick Off Celebration Concert. The once-in-a-lifetime event will be staged at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg on June 10th, a day before the World Cup starts.

Growing up on a diet of The Smiths, The Cure and taped John Peel shows, The Parlotones are an intelligent, artistic and talented band who are renowned for their darkly romantic lyrics, atmospheric pop structures and incredible live show.

The band’s fame in their own country is such that Razorlight and The Smashing Pumpkins have supported them on home turf as well as being selected to perform at Live Earth, Africa Day and the 2009 South African Presidential Inauguration. They were also the first home-grown act to headline the 19,000 capacity Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg.

Other artists playing the FIFA Kick-Off Celebration include: Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Shakira and Tinariwen.

The Parlotones release their single Life Design on April 12th taken from their forthcoming album Stardust Galaxies. They embark on a UK national tour with Ash in April.
