Gramophonedzie

As prepares to release his new single, Why Don’t You, Gramophonedzie took a few minutes out of his day to answer my exciting email questionnaire. I think I’m a fan…. And I might have a little crush on him.

Hello there, what are you up to?

Going to bed. You?

I'm going to get the train back to Barnsley to see my mum... Anyway, you’re getting ready to release your new  single; Why Don’t You can you tell us a bit about it?

Well, its a track I made around a sample from a original jazz song from 1943 “Why Don’t You Do Right” by Benny Goodman&Peggy Lee which is one of my girlfriend’s favourite old swing tracks. So basically it was her idea to do some kind of remake of this classic. The track found it’s own way, first it was signed onto the San Francisco jackin house label; Guesthouse and it became popular in underground clubs. And now, after it being huge in Ibiza last summer, I’ve signed it with Virgin/Positiva records.

There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?

I don’t think there is a lot of competition. There are a lot of people making music and if there is quality - people will notice it. I don’t really think that you can achieve success and make money if you only looking for it and if that’s your only motivation. The best music is made when producers and artists don’t think of money at all. I’ll try to keep up with the beats that I like, and that I would listen at home or play in the clubs.

So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?

The name of the track is “V Got Hacked” it’s a track I put together 2years ago. Its jazzy but has some wicked twists in it. That’s me.

If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?

I’ll buy you few drinks, hahaha..I would send you my promo mix before the party, so you’ll know what to expect and you’ll be definitely burning to come. And big brother is so boring anyways… ;)

We’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?

I’d advise to be patient, to work hard if you believe in what you are doing, even if sometimes it looks pointless. Don’t believe what people say, believe in yourself. I’ve really learned a lot, it wasn’t easy at all, but it’s always like that in the beginning, so just don’t loose your temper!
