Lights

Lights

Lights is fast becoming the number one electro pop sensation in around the world, so we thought it was only fair to catch up with the pint-sized princess for a little chat.

Hello Lights, what are you up to?

Before I started typing this interview, I was working on a theme song track for a Canadian TV show here in my sub-loft bed studio.

So, tell me a bit about your album The Listening?

'The Listening' is a collection of the best songs I've written over the past few years. Everything is really smooth to the ear. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to production, every sound has its place. I'm also a sucker for an anthemic melody, so those are speckled all about my writing.

What three words sum you up?

Fast, messy, happy.

And as Jacko had the Moonwalk and Elvis had the snake hips, what do you have that makes you unique?

While I don't think I'll ever have anything as nice looking as their fancy moves, I do have this awkward one-leg up flail on stage. It is not easy on the eyes but I enjoy it!

Now, clearly we need to get to know each other more, so tell me an interesting fact about you that no one else knows?

I collect World of Warcraft figurines, they inspire my imagination.

What song do you wish you'd written?

I wish I'd written "Both Sides Now" but Joni Mitchell did instead.

If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and TV, how would you convince me to come out?

Unless you're watching something extra groovy, you should come because there is a good chance your shoulder will be popping. Maybe even your head. Also, my songs are meant to be sung along with, so you can sing cathartically if it pleases you.

And if you were to take me on a trip to your hometown, what would be the first place we'd go?

A hole in the wall joint called Sneaky Dee's. Amazing nachos, cheap bevies and good company.

Who was the last person you called / text and what for?

My manager about his thoughts of a version of that theme song I was telling you about. I'm fortunate enough that our relationship is not the usual artist/manager thing. We're always thinking on the same wave-length and it's nice to have someone you can truly trust in this business.

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

Hypersonic manipulation abilities (see Silver Swan).

If you had to date a member of the same sex (or opposite sex if the case may be) who would it be? Mine would ALWAYS be Angelina Jolie.

I like that girl from The Mummy. I actually don't know her name, but she's a babe.

What was the last thing you bought?

Crickets for my pet tarantula, Lance. He only eats them living!

Have you ever been arrested?

No, but it would be a cool story if I had been.

Speaking of prison - if you were to send someone to prison for crimes against music, who would it be?

Probably William Hung. I don't even want to know how many record sales he took.

What were you doing last night at 11?

Watching Sky Captain on my lap top (your girl, Angelina!).

Thanks! Have a great day.
