When I found out that Bo Bruce had made it into the final four of Orange Unsigned with Sony Ericsson I almost threw my TV out of the window; she had bad -mouthed one of the judges and stolen a final place from those incredible boys in Scarlet Harlots. I knew this interview was going to be trouble.
But from the moment I picked up the phone I was in love with her - in a non-lesbian way - and she well and truly charmed the bloody pants off me, again, in a non-lesbian way. Her passion for singing and her love for the Scarlet Harlots is undeniable; and this is a women who really has the voice of an angel… well sort of a rock and roll angel, if they have them in HMV.
Hey Bo, how does it feel knowing you’ve made it to the final four?
I’m feeling pretty nervous! [FF: Why?] Because it’s such a mad place to be, I had no idea I’d ever get this far.
Really! What made you enter the competition in the first place then?
Possibly my love for Alex James.
Oh my god, we are totally with you on that…. I put him on my Christmas wish list this year! But aside from a wedding to Mr James, do you think you have what it takes to win the ultimate prize?
Do you know what, I really really hope so! It’s all I want and it’s become a bit of an obsession really, I want it that much! Over the past few months I have been a really shit girlfriend and friend really because I go to sleep thinking about it, I wake up thinking about it, I talk about it all day! So I hope so.
Well you do have an incredible voice! But who do you think is your biggest rival?
I guess as a singer / songwriter I would have to say Tommy Reilly because he’s an amazing singer and he has a lot of love going on and a lot of fans already, so voting-wise I think he’s going to do pretty well.
Who would you like to see come back on the wildcard show?
I am praying that Scarlet Harlots come back, they are such lovely guys and they are so good. They are the ultimate rock stars.
When they were kicked off the show and you stayed there was a bit of an uproar from avid Harlots supporters as well as judge Lauren Laverne; how did that make you feel.
Ah, Lauren was really cross and sad to see them go which was fair enough. I think everyone has their favourites and they were hers so she was understandably gutted; in fact we all were. It was strange because I was standing on the stage with them knowing that one of them was going to go home and even when they said “We’re going to keep Bo” my heart sunk because they are so good and they have become really good mates of mine so it took me quite a few days to be happy again.
I think if they come back they could win, I don’t think they have peaked yet.
How do you cope with the fact that Lauren Laverne keeps taking digs at you?
The thing about Lauren and I is that we are both extremely passionate musicians and for me there is a difference between responding and reacting and I so passionately wanted to get through and for her to want me and it ended up getting pretty heated but I really hope we can draw a line under it to be honest.
It would be nice to go back and for it to just be something that happened last year.
So what do you have in store for us in the semi-final on the 18th?
Well I have written a new tune called Kiss In The Dark which I’m really excited about and have just put it up on my MySpace. It’s a tune for the girls to get jumping to as it’s a bit poppy!
Yay! Because I know the judges have been on your back to do something more upbeat, so now you can show them what you’re made of!
Yes, I know, I have taken on board what they want and now I have something to give them! I’m really proud of it too.
So other than yourself, who would you like to win the competition?
If I don’t get to win then I would love Scarlet Harlots to win.
Ooh, we’re backing Hip Parade.
Yeah, they are good too, but I love the Harlots.
