As Maroon 5 prepare to be unleashed as avatars in the new Band Hero video game alongside Fall Out Boy, Taylor Swift, The Go-Go’s, Janet Jackson, Culture Club and Snow Patrol, I caught up with Adam Levine to chat about music, Maroon 5 and a starring role in CSI: New York.

Hello there, what are you up to?

I’m very good thank you! Although I’m just about to leave a vacation which im very sad about today… I’m going back to work, back to the drawing board. Boo!

So, I hear you’re involved in a foxy new computer game, Band Hero, tell us a bit about it?

Well it’s pretty unbelievably cool actually. It’s been a really weird dream of mine to be in a video game, I don’t know if other people share this strange desire but I always thought it was pretty cool and they called us and asked if we wanted to do an appearance on a video game and I had to put on this silly suit…

A silly suit?

Yes! Literally I was in this suit and they had an avatar created for me… they scan your body and it’s pretty trippy actually. They put you into this computer and they have this computer imagery and it makes you into a little character!

How did you do it then?

Well I had to perform the song wearing probably the nerdiest outfit of all time. [FF: I hope there’s photographic evidence of this Adam!] I believe there I yeah! It was one of those things I’ll never forget because I’ve never done anything like it, and I probably won’t getto do anything like it again.

Does that mean that Maroon 5 will be put on the back burner whilst you live inside people’s game consoles?

Mo! We are currently recording a record and we’re beyond thrilled with the results so far… we’ve got tons of songs done and really we cant wait to get this thing out and hopefully by the New Year it will be something closer to reality!

Woo hoo! Does that mean you’ll be coming over to the UK then?

Yes! We will get a trip over there, the UK is always the first place we want go!

Aww, you’re too kind to us Adam, now you’re past albums have all been massive sellers, do you think this new one is going to blow them out of the water and kick some ass?

I do believe so yeah! I think it’s hard because you just never know but I’m hoping that regardless of all that it does do well because I truly believe it’s the best album we’ve ever done and knowing that is half the battle right?

Exactly! Also, you’ve got such a unique voice and in this new game people can sing along to your songs… have you ever actually met anyone who can pull off an Adam Levine impersonation?

Not really, it’s pretty uniquely my own! [FF; I’m going to give it a go] haha, good luck with that!

I will, I’ll be getting a perfect score! But what if I can’t remember any of your old songs? What one song should I go out and download to jog my memory of how great you are!?

Ooh, I don’t know. Argh! Go listen to all our music and pick your favourite!

Okay, now I also saw you in the new series of CSI: NY, which is my favourite show at the moment! How did that come about?

Oh, it happened in a very un-interesting way… it just came up and we said yeah! I know that doesn’t sound very exciting, I can’t make p and exciting story for it.

It was good! But then everyone started dying in this fancy paint which wasn’t cool…

Yeah, I’m glad we didn’t have to die on the show, although that would have been fun!

Okay, so going back to the game you’re featuring in, how different is it to Guitar Hero?
