Natascha Sohl Interview

Natascha Sohl has an extensive profile of excellent shows, from intimate private parties to sold-out arenas, but as she prepares to release her latest single Fade taken from the album, Dirty Little Word, I caught up with her for a little chat…
Hello there, what are you up to?
Currently I’m doing this interview… and drinking tea!
So, you’re getting ready to release your new single ‘Fade’ / album ‘Dirty Little Word’ can you tell us a bit about it?
Fade is a pretty personal track and is one of the more autobiographical songs on the album. It’s about a really good friend who had a tragic accident, and it’s basically about the day I found out.
It was actually the first song that we wrote it was tough writing such a personal song first off with people that I hadn’t really got to know yet, but I think it’s good to throw yourself in at the deep end sometimes. It’s the only really sad song on ‘Dirty Little Word’.
The rest of it’s full of sarcastic, fun rock pop songs! Some of them are a little feisty and um, well a bit anti love maybe… hence the title! I’m really proud of the album and can’t wait to get it ‘out there’ now. I’m hoping people are gonna like it! J
The new single from that, comes out on 8th March why are you releasing that track now?
It’s a track that seems to have been pretty well received by radio and press and also when we’ve played it live so it seemed like a good choice! The album is coming out on 22nd March so people wont have to wait for too long to hear what else there is to offer on there!
Your previous album, Strange Fascination had some great reviews written about it by press and fans a like, do you think you can replicate this with the new record?
Yeah I think so, the new record is pretty different to the first one, but I think it shows in my writing and a change in the influences as you grow as a person and musician.
It’s a bit more edgy and rocky and definitely has a more of an American feel too it (as I wrote most of it and recorded it over in the US) but I think people will like it! I don’t think anyone wants to hear the same album regurgitated from a band over and over again… you want to hear what’s new with them!
There is a lot of competition in the business today, do you think you have what it takes to give the big names a run for their money?
Yes!
So, if you could recommend just one song of yours for us to download so that we want to hear all of your music, what would it be?
Hmmm, I think I would suggest Habit. I like that one!
If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching Big Brother, how would you get me out of the house?
Well, if you were going to stay home and watch TV you should probably watch The Hills coz they’ve used some of my songs!! BUT you should probably just sky plus that and come and have a great night in the real world with me and my band!! It’s never a bad thing to find some new music and we’re ace! You can even hang out with the band afterwards and I’ll you a beverage!! J
We’ve got to admit you’re a little bit cool, so what advice would you give to someone just starting out, knowing what you know now?
Ha, why thank you! I would say make sure you believe in what you’re doing and be prepared to work you ass off and put the time in… these things don’t happen over night. Love what you’re doing and stick to your guns – if you love it someone else is gonna too. You’re never gonna please everyone so be ok with that and don’t give up, coz there will be times when you’ll want to.
So, if Natascha Sohl was an acronym what would each letter stand for?
New Artist To Amaze Super Cool Humans Awaiting Songs Of Heartfelt Lyrics
If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?
That is not really a fair question to someone who likes music! One would definitely not be enough… But at the moment I’ve been listening to Paramore – Riot a lot… it’s awesome.
Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions (that I robbed off my stepsisters’s MySpace page); What were you doing last night at 11?
Watching the Winter Olympics mens snowboarding racing on TV.
What are you going to do after this interview?
Making pancakes
When was the last time you did something incredibly stupid?
Yesterday.
What’s the last film you saw?
Up, it’s so good. I cried about 5 minutes in!!
What’s the last thing you bought?
A bulldog with wings on! (It’s not a real dog) J
