One Night Only are rolling around on their tour bus across the country on their biggest gig-list yet but as always, FemaleFirst was there before they packed up their clean pants and socks to find out about life as a rockstar, playing summer festivals and changing socks.Hey Mark, what have you been up to recently; anything exciting?
We have our biggest tour yet coming up so were in rehearsals for that and at the same time were working on new material for our second album.
Ooh, can you give us any inside info on it?
Its going to be out at the start of next summer hopefully its very early days yet as weve only had a week to work on it so far so we dont really have any full songs; were just throwing ideas about. So why should people come and see you on tour; do you have anything spectacular going on like pyrotechnics?
Its not quite like but its definitely the biggest tour weve ever done and were hoping to make it a bit more of a show this year as weve got our own lights and lighting engineer which were all very excited about. Its the first time weve properly rehearsed for a tour and the most exciting thing for us is having a few new songs because weve been playing the same songs on tour now for the past year and half and I think for the fans it will be really cool for them to hear a sample of some of the new stuff.Okay, Ill let you off then, so this seems to have been an incredible year for you guys, did you ever imagine youd make it so big this quickly?
Not really to be honest. Not at all, when we started everything was just for fun so we never expected any of it.
Aww, how modest! So your new album is called Started A Fire, whats the inspiration behind the title?
Its actually from one of the songs. Its a lyric from Hes There which is a very important song to all of us because it was written about a friend of ours who died while we were writing the album so we wanted to use a lyric from that song as a dedication to him.
After the funeral this guy we know went up to this place we used to go and started a massive fire so that was the inspiration behind the lyric.
Thats so nice. So who do you look up to within the music industry?
We have a really wide range of influences. Oasis were the reason that I picked up a guitar so for me they will always be important. But currently my favourite two bands are The Killers and Kings Of Leon because they make really great, strong songs and are really amazing live.
I always judge a band on whether they can play live because I think we are a live band because you cant really appreciate our songs unless you see us live. If you really like an album and then you see a great band live, it just steps it up a gear.
So you appeared on The Friday Night Project and George was an extra in Hollyoaks; how did these parts come about?
The Hollyoaks one was a strange one because he wasnt acting in it. It was a musical Christmas special so they had a load of bands in the pub there (The Dog On The Pond). They have a lot of bands playing in the background and weve been used in that quite a bit.
Did you meet any celebs then?
It was only George who did it as it was an acoustic set so I dont know who he met.
If it was me I would have been running around like a headless chicken! You must have loved playing Glastonbury though, was it one of your highlights?
Yeah! It was a big one for me, I really enjoyed it, it was an amazing festival!
Did you used to go before you got signed and wish you were playing there?
Not really, it was Leeds festival for us, we always used to go there so it was amazing for us to play that, we really loved it, it had been our dream since we started the band.
How do playing the festivals compare to the headline tour you did back in January?
Its definitely different because its a different atmosphere because not everyone there knows all of the songs whereas most of the people that come to see you live have got your album and at a festival people could be checking you out for the first time after hearing you on the radio.
At a festival its great seeing people getting into songs theyve never heard before but at your own shows its a great feeling when people are singing along to every word! For us we probably prefer our own shows but we love festivals as well.
What has been your proudest moment so far?
For me it would be playing Leeds festival because it was a lifetime dream of mine and I finally got to do it.
What would you love to achieve in the next ten years?
To be honest Im not looking that far forward. For us at the moment its all about our second album; with the first one doing well we have a platform to become a really big band which I s our aim and I think if we get the second album right we can do that so were really wanting to get the second album right.
Good work, stay focused. I like that! We ask everybody we interview to come up with a question for our next interview and Tulisa from N-Dubs wants to know who your secret crush within the music industry is?
Alexa Chung, the girl who goes out with Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys.
Oh right, well its not a secret crush anymore is it? Haha, but can you now come up with a question for the next person I interview please?
When youre on tour, how many times a week do you change your socks?
Ooh great one! Find out how many times You Me At Six change their socks very soon!
