The Beat Poets Quickie Q&A

8 months ago 26th Feb 15:00

After releasing their debut album, Staring Stars Down at the end of 2008, it was time I got myself some of this Beat Poet action; so i caught up with the hotties for a quickie.

To anyone who hasn't heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?

Modern dynamic, great live sounding rock music.

Tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your foxy new record...

Staring Stars Down was out just before Christmas and won several awards before being released, its basically a tune about no matter how hard your life becomes you can always rise above it.

If you were going to give us just one song of yours to listen to so that you would become our new favourite singer, what would it be?

'Bloodline'

And can you sum up your good selves in just five words?

Modest good mates playing music

What makes you guys stand out from the crowd?

We'll still wear leather coats in 35 degree plus heat

You know we're having a bit of an economic crisis here at the moment, if people wanted to spend their last £10 on a cd this weekend, why should they buy yours?

Because we respect their fantastic choice in music!

Tell me the meaning behind your band name?

It comes from the 60's literally Poets movement of San Franciso with the likes of Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac who wrote about gritty, edgy urban life.

How did you guys all come together?

We just grew up together which I always feel is how the best bands form.

What has been your favourite musical memory to date?

Probably my dad introducing me to great albums when I was kid such as those from Talking Heads, REM, David Bowie etc. Aside from that our first stadium show with Sonic Youth and the Chemical Brothers.

Who do you think is the greatest artist around at the moment?

Tough one - U2, REM, Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam....take your pick of those 4.

If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be a mix tape!

Okay, no we want to ask you some random questions; What was the last book you read?

Ghosts by Hans Holzer which I bought while playing in Toronto...scary stuff.

If you had only 9 minutes to live, what would you do in those 9 minutes?

Probably streak for a laugh at a Daniel O'Donnell show...best to go out with a smile on your face!

If you could take over a foreign country tomorrow, which would you take over and what would be your first law?

Singapore...as would be really small to manage and the food there is great! I would lower the price of Alcohol as anyone whos been there will know how expensive a pint is..especially Guiness.

Cheers, good luck with everything & thanks for making my day slightly more entertaining!
