The Cinematics' Scott Chatting To The Holloways

The Cinematics' Scott Chatting To The Holloways

The Cinematics have been working their little fingers to the bone today, so for their final assignment, we though we would get them to become a real journalist for half a hour, and have them interview their label mates, The Holloways.

So guys, we have shared labels with us for a while, so how were things for you during the post TVT, pre order period, where you writing and keeping busy or sitting with your head in your hands asking “why?”

We were keeping ourselves busy and trying to make the most of the situation we found ourselves in, when we found out they (TVT) went bust on the second-to-last day we were mixing our second album, which sucked!

Yes! What a nightmare, we were just about to start a tour in Germany, we had gotton on the plane and things were okay, we got off the plane and were about to do our first gig and got a phone call saying “TVT are under.”

I know! It was pretty bad, but we just tried to make the best out of a bad situation.

Good on you, now, we heard there was a fire, what happened?

The pub in North London where we used to store our stuff and rehearse burnt down with all our stuff inside it and the insurance wouldn’t pay up because it was deemed to have started due to undue care and attention!

Oh no, that’s terrible, do you have any idea how the fire started?

No, we don’t. the fire brigade have said they found cigarette butts in the basement and that could have been the cause of it, but we don’t really know.

So, I take it you’ve got a pile of new stuff now?

Yes, Orange have been very nice to us and given us some stuff for cheap. Plus, - if it ever can be - it happened at a good time because we had just gotten new members and their stuff wasn’t in the basement, so we didn’t have to buy a new drum kit or guitar, which saved us some money!

What happened to the old member’s stuff then?

Well they had to buy more stuff I guess.

So, moving on, have you spent much time in the states? And if so, what was your favourite takeaway outlet?

Haha! Unfortunately we haven’t spent much time in the States, because     TVT’s money problems prevented us getting there, we went to New York though and the Tick Tock diner was definitely a favourite of ours! And SBSW as well, we were at this place that did amazing ribs!

Okay, so The Holloways are you all from Holloway Road?

We’re not all from Holloway Road! But we’re from near Holloway Road, and I am currently standing behind some shops on Holloway Road as I live on The Holloway Road.

Ooh, okay, now, what was the last record you bought?

Other than our own album which came out yesterday I bought the Mumford And Sons album too, that was out yesterday as well.

And, if you could support any band, past or present, who would it be?

I would really, really love to have supported the Rolling Stones in the late 1960’s. I would have loved to have supported The kinks too, they were a huge influence on me.

So, you’re album is done now, so what are you looking to do in the future?

Well, we’ve got a tour starting on October 17th in Derby.

Have you played in Derby before?

Yes there are only two venues on this whole tour that we’ve not played before. When we go on tour we like to put together a tour full of the most fun venues we’ve done in each town.

So how long has it been since your last tour?

It’s been a full year since we’ve done a proper tour, we are really looking forward to it, we’ve done little festivals and stuff over the summer, but touring is the best part of being in a band for me.

Yeah, touring is what it’s all about! But, girls love boys love guys in bands so, do you all have girlfriends or do you live the rockstar lifestyle when it comes to women?

Haha! Two of us have girlfriends, but we’ve all gone through periods of not having girlfriends, and whilst it can be very enjoyable, we all prefer girls who don’t just throw themselves at your.

When we were in Dundee this girl burst into the backstage room and started taking her clothes off and saying; “I just want to sleep with a girl in a band”

That’s brilliant!

Well, it was a brilliant moment at first, and we’re glad we were there, but we did have to phone security and ask them to get her out of the dressing room!

It’s disturbing how many girls out there like there, luckily I’ve never had that experience though! Anyway, my friends say they are jealous of my lifestyle, and so they should be! But what would you be doing if you weren’t in a band?

Ideally, I’d be performing in some way, but in reality I would probably be working at Middlesex Uni still. I was a lecturing technician, so I taught people to build sets and do sound, and I helped out when they had their own shows!

Okay, finally, what is the last message on your mobile? If it’s not interesting, make something up!

The last message on my mobile…. It’s not that interesting, it was saying “I’ve spoken to the Managing Director of Orange, turn up at 2.30pm to do the interview”

Brilliant! Okay man, thanks so much for your time!
