The Pictures Answer The 15 Questions We Ask Everyone
Judith Algar and Nick Nicholas make up the enigmatic duo that are The Pictures and their forthcoming single Killing Time serves as the perfect introduction for listeners new to their acclaimed, etheral synth-pop. We caught up with the lovely Judith to ask her the 15 Questions We Ask Everyone.
Q. Hello little monster, what are you up to?
A. Giving my computer one last chance before I throw it out of the window. (It’s been particularly malevolent today).
Q. So tell me what you’re here to promote?
A. Our debut single, ‘Killing Time’, a mixture of 80’s pop and melancholy to dance to, with lyrics for anyone who’s ever had to watch the minute hand of a clock drag by.....
Q. And if we didn’t have any clue as to who you were, what should we be looking up on Google?
A. www.myspace.com/the-pictures or www.youtube.com/WeAreThePictures
Q. And as Jacko had the Moonwalk and Elvis had the snake hips, what do you have that makes you unique?
A. We do a mean chicken dance. Saving that for a later video.
Q. Now clearly we need to get to know each other more, so tell me an interesting fact about you that nobody knows.
A. I’m very bad at recognising people’s faces. I’m always waving enthusiastically at people I’ve never met and accidentally snubbing close friends. And I once approached Mick Jagger in the mistaken belief that he was my old Sociology teacher, Mr O’ Leary.
Q. What song do you wish you’d written?
A. ‘17’ by Janis Ian. What a song.
Q. If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting and home and watching TV, how would you convince me to come?
A. Cut off your electricity. Then ring your mobile and play our opening song.
Q. And if you were to take me on a trip to your hometown, what would be the first place we’d go?
A. We’d go drinking cava in the pub next to Jerry Hall’s place, watching the sun go down over the Thames and Petersham meadows.
Q. What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled on someone?
A. I’m very sorry to say it involved a toilet. And clingfilm.
Q. And what’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? Please tell us how it ended up.
A. Running across a dual carriage way to pass a demo through the window of a well known music industry figure’s Rolls Royce. Sadly for the music industry figure, I fear things did not end well. Not well at all.
Q. If you had to date a member of the same sex, who would it be? Mine would always be Angelina Jolie.
A. It would have to be the gorgeous Zahra Ahmadi, who starred in our video.
Q. Have you ever been naked in public? Elaborate.
A. Frequently. Joyously. With abandon. Not deliberately since I hit 5 though.
Q. Have you ever been arrested? Again, elaborate.
A. Arrested? Yes. Elaborate? No.
Q. Speaking of prison, if you were to send someone to prison for crimes against music, who would it be?
A. It would have to be Simon Cowell, wouldn’t it?
Q. What were you doing last night at 11?
A. You will have to believe me when I say you really, really don’t want to know.
