The Pierces

The Pierces

Breaking into the mainstream, The Pierces' recent album went into the UK Top 5. We chatted to Allison Pierce about the band.

-Your album’s gone in at Number 4 in the album charts. Were you surprised?
Cat and I have been through so many ups and downs in this business that nothing really surprises us anymore. But we were certainly happy about it!

-This is actually your fourth album. Has it been hard work getting to this stage?
There has been plenty of blood, sweat and tears over the last few years, but we love what we do so it often times doesn't feel like work at all.

-How did The Pierces begin?
Well, let's see....we were born.

-Do you write all your own material?
We do. The only song that we have recorded but did not write is "Glorious" which was written by our friend James Levy.

-You’re playing some very intimate venues on the tour. Do you prefer these smaller shows?
I think that I do, but I think Catherine does not.

-Do you think your music will translate to bigger venues?
We certainly hope so.

-Who are your main influences?
The Beatles and Joni Mitchell.

-What makes The Pierces unique compared to a lot of what’s around in the mainstream?
The sisterly harmonies.

-What can fans expect from your live show?
Hopefully a good time.

-Do you see this recent chart success as a new beginning for you, will it affect your approach to your music?
I suppose in a way it is a new beginning. I don't think our approach to music will change. Music is a living, breathing thing, and it is best to let it approach you.

-What would you say to someone to convince them to check out your new album?
I would never try to convince anyone.
