Q: Jess' sexuality gets a lot of media attention. Do you ever feel like your private lives overshadow your music?

A: It is annoying. It gets frustrating when people focus more on our love lives than the things we want to talk about - our music for example. But when you reach a certain level of fame you have to accept that people are going to want more about you. It's a given in the industry, and we understand that. But at the same time it's terribly unpleasant to have people writing about such personal things. And to make it worse, 99.9 per cent of it is not true. That's the really upsetting bit.

Q: Your split from Dean Geyer made headlines last year. Were those stories difficult to read?

A: Definitely. I had a really hard time with that. Up until that point we'd managed to steer clear of bad press and our personal lives had not ended up in the papers. We had a good run for a while and then it all came crashing down. I just can't understand why anyone would want to read about something so traumatic. It felt a bit weird. But we just take that energy and put it back into our music. You just have to move on from the heartbreak. The newspapers will be writing something else next week.

Q: Are all your songs about heartbreak?

A: Our music is almost like our therapy sessions. Especially this one song on the record called 'This Love' - which was written by Toby Gad. Our songs are really, really personal. When we went back into the studio for our second record, Toby was asking us all about what was going on in our love lives, our personal lives. We just started writing down all that sort of emotional stuff and it was literally like a therapy session. That's why I think our records are so honest and relatable - because our music is true to who we are.

Q: Your single 'Untouched' is getting a lot of airplay in the UK at the moment. What is it about?

A: 'Untouched' is about difficult, long distance relationships. It's about feeling untouched by the people in your life because you're so far away from them all the time. It was something Jess and I were feeling when we wrote the song and I think a lot of people have felt that way. But even though it sounds so depressing, it's really quite an upbeat, fun song, actually.

Q: A lot of singers do a bit of acting on the side. Are you involved in any other projects?

A: Well we have our own fashion label in Australia. It's called 'The Veronicas' and it's an edgy, fun fashion range for young girls. It's easily accessible and it has some really cool stuff. It's been a really fun challenge. It's just another way of creatively expressing ourselves. It's really nice for us to have a creative outlook other than music.

Q: You and Jess are renowned for your distinctive sense of style. Who are your fashion influences?

A: We like to do our own thing and at the moment we're both really into that androgynous look. I really love British fashion too. I love Kate Moss and Keira Knightley. We also love Gwen Stefani - she always wears things which are quite cool.

Q: Who are your favourite designers?

A: Most of the time, we don't wear designer clothes. We prefer one-off vintage shop finds, mixed with classic pieces. But I won't lie - we do love Chanel.

Q: Is there any sibling rivalry between you and Jess?

A: We get along really well but I am envious sometimes. If I could have one of Jess' personality traits, I would choose the fact that she is always so sure of herself and her opinions. I'm very indecisive, and I can never make decisions easily or quickly so I really appreciate that in her. I wish I had a little bit more of that. My least favourite quality of hers is that she's a know-it-all. Jess can be extremely dominating at times. She's a very strong girl, and at times I think she starts to preach a bit too much. But at the same time, the things you find annoying about people are also the things you love about them too.
