Based in London, Adam Cleaver is an incredible singer-songwriter with an incomparable talent and willingness to succeed.

Beginning his performances on the London open-mic circuit back in 2013, the only way has been up for Adam who went on to release debut EP 'Boxed and Braised' last June to positive reviews.

Now Female First has had the chance to put some questions to Adam about his artistry, what's to come in the future and much more. Read on to find out what he said...

For those who may be new to your music, how best would you describe your sound?

It has been described as folk, alternative or indie. The sound is pretty dynamic. It has its roots in folk as it is vocal and lyric driven, but there are really cinematic moments and songs where the band sound much heavier.

What challenges have you faced in the music industry so far?

I think being visible as an emerging artist has been the overarching challenge. There is a lot of talent in the city and sometimes it can be hard to have your voice heard. There's just so much damn good music!

How difficult would you say this career path is in terms of making a name for yourself?

For sure it's tough, but I'm reluctant to feel as though becoming successful as a musician is more difficult than in any another profession. I'd probably find it just as difficult to open a taco shack, or design pottery.

How important is it for you to have creative control over the work you produce?

I love working with other minds to flesh out a song. It helps if the idea is clear in my mind. I tend to have an idea of where I want a song to go but I wouldn't say that I rule with and iron fist or anything!

Where do you draw influence and inspiration from for your work?

Often inspiration comes from listening to music. I like to listen to a whole album and be immersed in the space that it occupies. I get my best ideas when I step outside of myself for a sec and take in something new. It's not just music though, it could be anything.

If you could collaborate with anybody going forward, who would you choose and why?

I actually had a conversation with someone not long ago and we spoke about this. I would love to write a song with Fionn Regan. His lyrics are just breathtaking and his skill for writing melodies is unparalleled.

Tell us a random, funny fact about you that not many people know.

A big reason why I have a beard is because I have quite a small face.

Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?

I think that any goals I had previously have become more definitive as i've progressed. Short term goals seem to present themselves all the time once you're in the thick of it, things like playing a great venue or finishing new material. But they all lend themselves to the one main goal which is to have my music heard.

Where do you hope to be this time next year?

It's set to be a fairly busy few months so this time next year I hope to be making plans to release new music and playing bigger shows.

What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?

My single 'The Salt Mine' will be out on June 15th, and an EP set for release at the end of the summer. The video for 'The Salt Mine' will be premiered in the next few weeks so keep an eye out for that!
