Nabiha

She's topped the UK Urban Charts with her previous two releases, and her new release 'Bang That Drum' (released today) is to be promoted at a show at Hoxton Bar & Grill on April 4.

She is Nabiha, and the Danish Grammy Award winner spoke to Female First about breaking into the industry, her new material and what to expect from her in the coming months.

How difficult did you find it to break into the music industry?

It's hard work. A bit of luck, and the right timing. But mostly hard work, and great team work. I owe a lot to the people I work closely with. If it wasn't for them believing in me, and constantly pushing my music, I might not have been so fortunate to get to do full time what I love the most. Music.

What can we expect from your new single?

'Bang that Drum' is a song about seizing the moment, trusting in your abilities and celebrating your accomplishments, wether you're playing ball, finishing school, got a new promotion, or you're on the dance floor. Expect an uptempo, feel good attitude, in your face-kinda pop song that makes you wanna hit the club.

What is it about music that you love?

Music is a constant source of inspiration to me. What I love about music, is its ability to express & translate feelings, change moods instantly, and touch souls across the world. You don't even have to understand what is sung, or what instrument is being played! In short, music is a sort of universal language, it can be therapeutic, and break borders and language barriers. I know I'm such a hippie, but it's so true! And what's not to love about that?!

Why do you think your music appeals to so many different types of people?

I don't really know, but I would like to! I write about my thoughts and personal experiences, and I like to write my songs in a way that is open for others to interpret and relate too. One song might mean something specific to me, but something completely different to you. I like that! I like for people to make my music their own.

What is your aim as a musician and artist?

World Domination, haha! I say that with a smile on my face, but I do wanna see it all, and I wanna travel, and I wanna continue to make music! If I can keep learning, expanding my horizon, and be creative for the rest of my life, I couldn't ask for much more as a musician and artist.

How was the experience of performing at the European Handball Championships to a global audience of over a billion?

I absolutely loved it! It was a crazy feeling performing in the middle of the court, looking up at the 15,000 people all around me. Almost felt like standing in the Colosseum, with thousands of cameras flashing, and then knowing that so many more people were watching from home. What a kick! It was a great and very unifying feeling to be a part of the European Championship. I was happy to be asked to write the official song, and I got so hooked on handball after the whole experience!

What should fans expect coming to see you in London on April 4?

Expect a lot of energy and good vibes from the stage. A lot of dancing on my part, haha! I love performing, and I have a lot of love for London. We always have a great time here, and you can be sure that we’ll be playing and singing our hearts out for you guys.

What do you hope to achieve in the next 12 months?

I hope to get my music out there. Travel to many new territories and revisit old ones. I hope to spend more time in the studio. I have a lot of new inspiration, and ideas I wanna try out. And I also wanna be better at being present. I always hope to stay positive and focused, and just be happy! That's not too much to ask for, is it?
