With a place left in the Orange unsignedAct with Sony Ericsson competition semi-finals up for grabs, pretty boys SleeperCell are hoping to be given a second chance in Channel 4’s hit TV talent show.
Despite being plagued by comments from the judges that singer Barnaby would be better off without the rest of his band, I caught up with Kyle Orton to find out what the boys have been up to since getting booted off the show, what’s next for them, and crucially, to try and convince him to buy me a new dress!
Things are pretty good actually as we have been doing quite a few gigs, then had a break over Christmas and New Year and now things are kicking off again.
We have been writing more stuff and practising and gigging trying to keep up with the publicity and say Hi to all our new fans too!
I would really like to see Toby Sebastian win. That’s just me personally but I know that we all, as a band, all really like Hip Parade. [FF: Woo, they’re my favourite too!] Yeah, they are all really nice guys too.
I have no idea! I would say we are a five piece. [FF: Ooh, I like what you did there!] Despite the fact that all the judges wanted from us was a one piece.
It was really quite hurtful because we are a band. Barnaby has stuck up for us in interviews and on TV they didn’t really show the whole story so painted me out to be a bit of a twat basically.
I think what it is would be our character. When we are in interviews we suck but backstage and onstage we love to have fun and push our fun onto everyone and rock out.
Well we originally began as a three-piece in our high school when we first started our instruments, and then Barnaby came over from America and I realised that he could sing and asked him to sing for our band and then about a year later we realised there was still something missing and that’s when we found Pat and asked him to join.
My personal ones are a band called Mayday Parade who I really love. They have two vocalists and they are really happy, upbeat music so I try to learn things from them. I know Barnaby is hugely influenced by Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. I think Matt likes classic rock like Led Zeppelin and Guns N Roses whilst Rob and Pat are more of a mix of everything really!
I was really gutted the week we went out because I realised that we missed out on McFly who were on the week after because we really like them. I reckon as a band we would love to tour with Foo Fighters because we all love them.
Oh man, I’m really bad at these!
Oh dear, I feel like I need to perform. Once I put my cat on my head because it was shoulder trained and I wanted to find out if it would sit on my head, but it just dug its claws in and I was spinning around with a cat on my head.
I haven’t really bought that many expensive things, [FF: Well I have seen this dress I want which is a tad expensive if you want to start now?] Haha, my dad buys most of my things, so I can’t really offer anything there, but if I had to choose it would probably be my amp which cost £1,000.
Well, I’ll tell you what, if music doesn’t pick up, I’ll sell my amp and I will buy you five dresses.
I don’t know! Is assassinated when you pay someone to do it? [FF: I’m not sure, isn’t that Hitman?] Oh I don’t know then.
Oh man, [FF: we don’t even know what that means] If you go on our MySpace we have our Orange Unsigned videos on our page and there is one where we had to invent something for the show and we invented a left nipple protector which came about because Barnaby and Rob had some creativity time outside band practise away from us and we don’t actually know why it came about. Hum.
Bye!
