With their incredible new single getting shedloads of airplay on Radio One recently, I caught up with The Noisettes front woman Shingai Shoniwa to find out what happens if you do in fact, upset the rhythm.

The Noisettes

Hello there pretties, how are things going in your lovely world?

Great thanks, really busy!

To anyone who hasn’t heard of you yet, how would you describe your sound?

I’d say it is really exciting. God, how can I describe it? Hum, just really exciting pop music really which I really inspired by rock and roll, old jazz and old soul. It’s very entertaining.

What’s it like hearing your song on an advert?

It’s only weird when you’re out somewhere. I went to the cinema the other day with my friend and then when it comes on you just want to sink into your seat because if you’re with someone they know it’s you.

It’s really exciting though because hopefully a lot of people will see the advert and not know it’s us and then find out who we are and then maybe hear us on the radio and all the dots will join up hopefully.

Yeah! That’s what happened to me! I found it out when I’d heard it on the radio! What makes you stand out from the crowd?

We’re not trying to be anything we’re not and we’re really hard working entertainers, we’re not like a really hyped-up band that a fashion or music magazine is trying to convince everyone is absolutely perfect. So I think for us, we’re three really passionate individuals who couldn’t be more different from each other. I think a lot of bands out there all look the same and they all like the same music so they don’t always offer new things to the scene.

A lot of songs at the moment are depressing with the recession and I think now more than ever, the ‘diva’ style artists can make a return because people are being more careful with their money and not buying any old shit, you will only buy cd’s and tickets of things that you like! Hopefully all the shit will sink to the bottom and the stars will rise to the top of the galaxy.

You know we’re having a bit of an economic crisis here at the moment, if people wanted to spend their last £10 on a tickets a gig ticket, why should they come to one of your shows?

Because they will be completely transported away from whatever hum-drum business they have and any tension will be musically massaged away! We give as much as possible and we don’t prance around on stage trying to look cool wearing any designer that’s in at the moment.

We don’t really follow the rules and I think if someone is coming from a hard day at work, our gigs will make you feel like you have so much potential and Spring is upon us as things will get more and more beautiful. I’m a very positive person at the moment, I don’t expect the world to be on my doorstep, if you really want something you really need to go out there and get it.

Can you sum up your new album in just five words?

Bold, Golden, Purple, Beastly Ballad

What three bands would you have to headline your dream festival?

Jimi Hendrix, Queen and Prince.

Ooh, good answer, I’ll come! Also, If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably Erykah Badu - Baduizm

What has been your favourite musical memory to date?

Playing at Wembley Arena when we supported Muse… looking out at all those people and then seeing all my family there and hearing them at the end of the songs I felt like my mum was really proud of me.

Okay, now we want to ask you some random questions; If you only had nine minutes to live, what would you do in those nine minutes?

If the world was going to end right now, I don’t think I would be comfortable with dying without having any beautiful children; so if you could conceive and give birth in eight minutes and then hold that child for one minute and then know it was going to be looked after then that would be great.

If you could take over a foreign country tomorrow, what would you take over and what would be your first law?

I think it would have to be a little island off the east coast of Africa and my first law would be ‘Love each other and let each other be men, women and children.’

Aww, you’re so thoughtful, I love it!

I know, I hope it lasts!

We ask everyone we interview to come up with a question for the next person we interview and Children Of Bodom want to know; if you were stranded on a desert island, what one person would you take with you?

I think it would have to be the man of my dreams, but I haven’t met him yet!

So can you come up with a question for the next person I interview please?

What kind of food or dish sums you up?
