Unless you have been living in a cave at the top of Mount Everest for the past few months you will have heard that Alenxadra Burke was crowned winner of The X Factor on Saturday night.
Alex fought off stiff competition from the other finalists; Irish lad Eoghan Quigg and possibly the best group the show has ever seen; JLS.
The guys all belted out the Christmas hits before being joined by a super famous group for a bit of a duet. Eoghan bagged himself a gig with Boyzone and they sang the wonderful Picture Of You whilst JLS and Westlife (wonder how you got them Louis?) were Flying Without Wings.
But the real show-stopper (and possibly the reason why she won) was Alexandra’s duet with the incredible Beyonce Knowles, on Listen a song from the film Dreamgirls. The fact that Beyonce even showed up was a wonder in itself, yet her vocals did highlight the fact that Alex has an incredible voice in comparison to the other contestants, but when it comes to Beyonce; she knocked spots off her.
On the night Alex did really impress; and her rendition of Silent Night set her miles apart from the rest, but still my heart was all about JLS, and I was gutted when they lost out to a woman who couldn’t even keep it together.
I admit that she had been waiting for this moment ever since Louis gave her the boot back in 2005 and it is nice to see her realise her dream, but shock horror, Holly Willoughby revealed on her sister show, The Xtra Factor, that the real winner should have been Eoghan.
If we assumed that every week was the final week, the number of votes cast would have given Diana and JLS the winning spot once, Alexandra would have ‘won’ twice, but Eoghan topped the public vote at whopping six times!
In all honesty though, on the night Alex was by far the strongest competitor; she might not have the best personality in the world: but she surely had the best voice on the night - and I guess that’s all that matters in the end. Besides, Eoghan can find comfot in Diana's arms.
Alex’s winners single, a cover of the Jeff Buckley classic Hallelujah will be available from Wednesday.
