BAND AID CD SELLS 100,000 ON FIRST DAYThe new BAND AID 20 single has proven to be a massive hit with the record-buying public, as nearly 100,000 copies were sold in Britain yesterday (29NOV04).Some shoppers even queued before shops opened to make sure that they picked up a copy of DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS?, which features the voices of stars including BONO, CHRIS MARTIN, ROBBIE WILLIAMS and SIR PAUL McCARTNEY. A spokesman for the British record store HMV says, "It will certainly be a million seller."It looks an absolute cert to be the Christmas Number One and could stay at the top for six weeks, if not longer."The single is expected to raise $3.6 million (£2 million) for people in war-ravaged Sudan.
