Beth Ditto's Sadness Over Father's Death

Beth Ditto has revealed the band's upcoming fifth album is littered with "sad" songs - she wrote it while mourning the death of her father.

The Standing in the Way of Control hitmakers are preparing to release their new disc, the follow-up to 2009's Music For Men, which was recorded with the help of superproducer Mark Ronson.

But the album is unlikely to feature Ronson's trademark uplifting brasssections, as Ditto was grieving for her father during the writing process and admits her emotions seeped into her work.

She tells Q magazine, "That summer we were writing the album, my dad died. So there's some pretty sad jams on there.

"They're deep. These songs, they mean a lot to me, you know? It's a bit of a bummer".
