The Black Eyed Peas have made U.S. pop chart history by scoring the most consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 countdown.

The hip-hop group have topped the singles chart for 20 consecutive weeks - surpassing Usher's previous record of 19.

Boom Boom Pow - their first number one single - and the song that dislodged it, I Gotta Feeling, have been at the top of the charts for 12 and eight weeks, respectively.

Frontman will.i.am is celebrating getting one over the band's critics.

He says, "There's a part of me that wants to be cocky, but then I can'tbe cocky. There's a part of me that wants to call out all of my other peers and competitors. I knew that Boom Boom Pow would be big in the clubs".

The band isn't just enjoying success in just their native U.S. - on Monday (17Aug09), the foursome reclaimed their spot at the top of the U.K. singles chart with I Gotta Feeling.

Considering the achievement, will.i.am adds, "How am I supposed to takethis and soak this in? If these people like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson have these number ones, but yet we just broke a record, how am I supposed to take that because we came from the under, under, underground".
