Reunited rockers Blur split up because they felt like a family of warringbrothers, according to drummer Dave Rowntree.

The Britpop pioneers announced their return to the music scene in December last year (08) after a six-year hiatus, and are set for a stunning comeback with a series of massive outdoor shows including a headline slot at England's legendary Glastonbury Festival next week (24Jun09).

We've become each other's surrogate brothers, and that brings with it an ability to understand each other very deeply - and an ability to push each other's buttons at will

The return came as a shock to fans after the band's bitter split from guitarist Graham Coxon, who walked away from the band during the recordingof its 2003 album Think Tank.

But Rowntree is adamant trouble within the group was always going to happen - because they are like siblings and know exactly how to annoy each other.

He tells Britain's Guardian newspaper, "Deep down the problem with our band has always been founded on the fact that all four of us have got one sister and no brothers.

"We've become each other's surrogate brothers, and that brings with it an ability to understand each other very deeply - and an ability to push each other's buttons at will. That was always going to boil over at some point. But in the time we spent apart, we all grew up an awful lot".
