Brian McKnight has urged critics who have blasted his ideas for a sexually suggestive new tune to lighten up - because the video he posted online about an "adult mixtape" was a prank.

In the short film, McKnight talks about his plans to record more explicit songs and offers up a sample of one, titled If You're Ready to Learn, in which he offers sympathy to women who are left unsatisfied in the bedroom by selfish lovers.

In the video he croons, "They talk a real good gameThey don't know what a tongue is forThey wine you and dine youYou let them untie you And they leave you wanting moreLet me show you how your p**sy worksSince youdidn't bring it to me firstI have lots of things to show youIfyou're ready to learn".

But the joke has backfired on the Back to One singer - fans and criticsare upset with what they think is McKnight's new direction.

Responding to the fuss about the parody video on Twitter.com, the singer writes, "I was just having some fun and look what happened... it's for all those women who keep getting disappointed by their partners period it was a parody about that. "It's funny how we listen and let our kids listen to songs about killing people and selling drugs and calling women b**ches...

I wrote this song crude as it may be about satisfying all women and look what happened.

"I'm not being defensive it's just sad to think that one parody could wipe out 25 years of work".

And he tells TMZ.com, he came up with the video parody as a way to killtime while recovering from Achilles tendon surgery at home "I've been home for a month... I've got this boot on my foot... I'm having fun because basically I have nothing else else to do".
