Bruce Springsteen helped rockers Wilco get over fears they would be booed off stage at the Bonnaroo music festival - by convincing themselves the crowd was cheering for the legendary star.
Springsteen and The E Street Band, who co-headlined the Tennessee festival with rockers Phish, gave a rare festival performance on Saturday (13Jun09) after Wilco finished their set.
Nervous frontman Jeff Tweedy admitted his worst fear was being heckled by harsh music critics when he took over the mic, but managed to calm hisfears by blaming The Boss' die hard fans.
If anybody boos us tonight, we have a built in excuse They're just yelling 'Bruce'
Stepping on stage he told the crowd "If anybody boos us tonight, we have a built in excuse They're just yelling 'Bruce'".
Bonnaroo concluded on Sunday night (14Jun09) with a second performance from Phish.
Other acts performing at the festival included the Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Elvis Costello and MGMT.
