Craig Revel Horwood has blasted Alesha Dixon, insisting she won't be as good as Arlene Phillips.

The 'Strictly Come Dancing' judge doesn't believe the 30-year-old singer - who won the celebrity dance contest in 2007 - has the knowledge or experience to do as well on the panel as the choreographer, who was axed from the show earlier this year.

"A celebrity contestant can never match someone who has been dancing their entire lives, who has been competitive and in professional competitions. It's going to be different because Arlene and I argued and had a lot of banter.

Craig said: "A celebrity contestant can never match someone who has been dancing their entire lives, who has been competitive and in professional competitions. It's going to be different because Arlene and I argued and had a lot of banter.

"I don't know if Alesha and I will do that. I don't have a clue what will come out of her mouth actually. The proof will be in the pudding."

However, Craig - who says he was "shocked" when producers decided to axe Arlene - admits he believes Alesha has some unique qualities to bring to the show.

He added to new! Magazine: "I'm inquisitive to see how she'll do and what she'll be like.

"She knows quite a bit about dance because she's been through the series and won it - so she's been trained by the professionals and by the best.

"She's a natural, gifted performer, so she'll add those sorts of elements to her role from the performance side."

Meanwhile, Arlene is reportedly set to rejoin the show - as choreographer in charge of the group dances.

A source said: "Arlene may not be a judge any more but her experience is unparalleled. We've offered her a role doing what she does best, which is choreography. As viewers know, the group dances are highly technical so it's not an easy thing to do."

The 66-year-old dance veteran is expected to sign a deal - which may also include a guest spot on spin-off show 'It Takes Two' - within the next few days.
