Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole was so worried about what people thought of her when she became famous, she struggled to eat and sleep.
The British singer was thrust into the spotlight when she won a place in the girl group on 2002 U.K. TV contest Popstars: The Rivals.
Her celebrity status was catapulted further when she debuted as a judge on Simon Cowell's British talent show The X Factor last year (08).
Cole has now come to terms with life in the public eye, but she first went through a period of feeling overly self-conscious.
But she doesn't regret being a high profile figure, telling Britain's OK! magazine, "If there's a bad story, someone's eating their chips off it (the newspaper) the next day so we don't care. It's hurtful to read lies about yourself when people can actually believe those things, though... I'm just going to live my life and if I'm in the paper, big deal. In the past when we were still learning about stuff, the first bad story that's hurtful and untrue and your family is upset.
I'll be honest with you, in the past I didn't eat, sleep, I barely breathed through worry of what people were thinking of me, but never once did I think none of this is worth it.Cheryl Cole
