Champion's Birthday Gig Surprise... Chris Martin surprised his Coldplay bandmate Will Champion onstage as he turned 31 - by urging the 50,000-strong crowd to sing Happy Birthday.

Champion, the group's drummer, celebrated the milestone on Friday (31Jul09) but Martin decided to bring the party forward a night so they could mark the big day onstage.

During the band's show in Toronto, Canada, on Thursday (30Jul09) Champion was presented with a cake and balloons before Martin led the crowd at the Roger's Centre in a chorus of Happy Birthday.
