Veteran rocker CHUCK BERRY left Scottish fans infuriated when he stormed out of Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday (05JUL05) before taking to the stage, after his demands were not met by promoters. The NO PARTICULAR PLACE TO GO hitmaker was unhappy with his treatment at the hands of organisers as soon as he arrived at Glasgow airport.Things went from bad to worse as Berry complained about his hotel room and dressing room at the venue before abandoning his performance. A source at promoter CPL tells Scottish newspaper the Daily Record,"Basically he's just a cantankerous old man who didn't want to be there. He had been acting like a total diva - the kind of stuff you hear about from JENNIFER LOPEZ or MARIAH CAREY."Problems began when the 78-year-old demanded to drive the luxurious Mercedes car CPL arranged to meet him at the airport. The source continues, "When he arrived, the car was there to meet him with a driver. But he wanted to drive himself, and we couldn't get him insured because of his age. We eventually got two cars - one for him and one for his entourage."
Berry was then ferried to his luxurious Arthouse Hotel and given the most expensive room but remained unimpressed - and when he arrived at the Concert Hall he insisted on swapping dressing rooms with his support act.
Promoters did everything they could to placate Berry, but he stormed out in a rage - believing the demands he originally made on agreeing to perform had not been met.The source continues, "We did all we could, but, to be honest, it looked like he never had any intention of going on. The fans were getting very restless and the decision was taken that they had waited long enough."
However, Berry returned 30 minutes later and was shocked to discover the audience had already left. Promoters are taking legal advice with a view to launching a lawsuit against Berry.
