Eminem Keane Sir Cliff Richard ‘V’ an unlikely combination, well not according to Universal Music say there isn’t one they are all hit maker’s.Sir Cliff is ending his 46-year relationship with EMI and defecting to Universal the label that promotes Eminem, Keane and Will Young.Universal believes Sir Cliff's brand of soft rock is set for a revival.
The singer, who has had more British chart singles and albums than anyone else bar Elvis, is now turning to country music.His first album of new material for six years has been recorded in Nashville in collaboration with Bee Gees Barry Gibb with contributions from a number of up and coming young songwriters.The Times was told that Universal Music had signed Sir Cliff as a "priority act" after EMI passed on the record, Something's Going On.The Universal deal is initially for the new album, released in November, but further projects are expected to follow subject to the success of the new album.
The music knight’s records courted controversy earlier this year when DJ Tony Blackburn was suspended from the Classic Gold radio station after he ignored an edict not to play Sir Cliff’s records, apparently the company had banned them from being played the reasons were not known.
In a statement EMI they continued to have a good relationship with Sir Cliff and intended to release compilations and Christmas records of the singing stars recordings.
