Steven Tyler and Roger Daltrey fund new vocal cord research

Steven Tyler and The Who's Roger Daltrey are helping to fund a new gel invention that replaces damaged vocal cords.

The singer hopes the pioneering product will help struggling musicians and throat cancer patients.

The gel, which mimics the vibrations of human vocal cords was created by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, according to TheWeek.com.

Th research is also partly being funded by singer/actress Julie Andrews, who had to stop singing after her voice was affected by surgery in 1997.

Daltrey ye;;s Bloomsberg.com: "It's not just for singers. There are millions of people who have no voice whatsoever.

"It's one of Steven's main ambitions, to get this perfected in time to give Julie Andrews her proper voice back."
