Dirty Pretty Things, fronted by Carl Barat- the sober ex-Libertine with far less tabloid inches than Pete Doherty, had the Liverpool crowd buzzing last night as they hit the Carling Academy armed with a new album.Since the release of their debut album Waterloo to Anywhere the band have been quietly doing their time and putting in the hours playing festivals and touring round the country with their infectious brand of coherent punk.Barat's Bowie-esque voice carried the catchy chorus of favourites including 'The Enemy' and 'You Fucking Love It' comfortably across the bouncing crowd and had everyone singing along. As well as thoroughly enjoying the classic first album tracks, the revved up audience seemed suitably impressed with the new material from the band's next album, Romance At Short Notice.New songs included the first single from the new album, Tired of England, and Hippy Son, which had a definite festival feel and are bound to go down a storm over the band's busy summer. As the culmination neared and the crowd were about to burst a well placed trumpet announced the arrival of last year's huge hit Bang Bang You're Dead and the whole place exploded!Dirty Pretty Things may not have the hype of Babyshambles but they've definitely got the songwriting talent and effortless cool to create future punk anthems and cause modern day anarchy.Caz Moss- Female First
