Garvey Hopes New Anthem Becomes Wedding Song

Elbow star Guy Garvey wants his new song Open Arms to become a staple at Catholic weddings.

The rocker admits he penned the track in his underwear in his bedroom while blurting out lyrics into a Dictaphone - but he had grand plans for the tune.

He says, "I told myself, 'Write a song that replaces f**king My Way at Catholic weddings in the north of England.'" And Garvey feels sure he has achieved what he set out to: "All these big bleary-eyed drunks will sing it at Catholic weddings... Open Arms has a lot of unison singing in it.

"Grown men will come to our gigs and cry during that one."
