Elton John and George Michael will help launch a new gay rights group in Britain on Tuesday (13Sep11) in an effort to stamp out homophobic violence.

In some countries, it's simply appalling how people can be treated - how their rights are trampled on and the prejudices, and even violence, they suffer. I want Britain to be a global beacon for reform

The openly-gay singers will lend a hand in support of international pressure group Kaleidoscope, which was recently created to tackle the risingnumber of attacks on sexual minorities in developing countries.

The Rocket Man hitmaker and former Wham! star Michael will attend the organisation's launch at the House of Commons in London and bring a considerable amount of star power to the event in hopes of raising awareness about some of the world's anti-gay laws still in existence today.

Kaleidoscope will also be backed by U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron.

Cameron tells British newspaper The Independent, "In some countries, it's simply appalling how people can be treated - how their rights are trampled on and the prejudices, and even violence, they suffer. I want Britain to be a global beacon for reform".
