Elvis Would Have Lived If He Was A Brit

ELTON: 'ELVIS WOULD STILL BE ALIVE IF HE WAS BRITISH'ELVIS PRESLEY would still be alive today if he was British, according to SIR ELTON JOHN.The CROCODILE ROCK singer met The King in 1976 - the year before he died - and he was amazed with how bad the legend looked.Speaking exclusively to rock magazine ROLLING STONE, Elton explains, "The s**t that he was doing to himself, if he (Elvis) had lived in Britain, I don't think that would have happened to him.

"The celebrity world of America has too many yes men. You get cocooned."

And Elton insists he would have ended his days in as sad a state as his hero if it wasn't for the fact his British friends refused to support him as his drug problems spiralled out of control.

He adds, "At least when I was doing drugs, I had my good friends move away from me because they didn't want to know me."

Elton reveals that, looking back, he realised he had taken celebrity too far when he sees footage of himself at AIDS activist RYAN WHITE's funeral in 1990.

He says, "I'm huge and I have white hair and I look 70-years-old."
