Organisers of Britain's Isle of Wight Festival have apologized after severe storms and flooding turned the site into a mudbath and left thousands of revellers stranded.
It's blue skies here on the Isle of Wight
Music fans heading for the venue off the south coast of England on Thursday night (21Jun12) were hit by traffic jams, and their journey worsened when ferry operators cancelled boats to the island to prevent a bottleneck of crowds.
Bosses of the event, headlined by Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, insisted on Friday (22Jun12) that it was still scheduled to start at 4pm local time, but they apologized for the nightmare conditions.
A spokesman told Sky News, "The island is absolutely open. It's Blue skies here on the Isle of Wight. We apologize to those people who spent several hours trying to get to the site last night, and yes, there were issues getting into some of the car parks. I apologize to those people who had to spend some considerable time either here on the island or indeed on the mainland".
