Rapper Ghostface Killah is taking his record label bosses to court over allegations of unpaid royalties.

The hip-hop star has accused Universal Music Group executives of breaking the terms of his contract relating to profits from his work with the Wu Tang Clan.

Ghostface, real name Dennis Coles, alleges Universal representatives have been claiming a 50 per cent stake in profits from the band's tracks, instead of the 25 per cent he believes they are entitled to, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The lawsuit, filed in New York on Wednesday, stems from similar successful legal action he took against Wu Tang Productions leaders and the group's frontman, producer RZA, in 2005.

But the Universal problem isn't the rapper's only legal trouble - he's also fighting allegations of copyright infringement over his 2000 album Supreme Clientele.

Hollywood songwriter Jaques Urbont sued Ghostface in June, accusing the star of illegally sampling the original 1960s theme tune to Iron Man, a song he owns the exclusive rights to, on the project.

Ghostface hit back at the claims last week and questioned why it took Urbont more than 10 years to raise the complaint, insisting a judge should dismiss the suit because he failed to object in a timely manner.
