the GO-Gos guitarist Jane Wiedlin is hopeful for a full band reunion whenthe girls come together this summer (11) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album.
The Rush Hour hitmaker is confident the upcoming summer tour will remind her bandmates just how much fun they had writing and recording hits like We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed three decades ago - and that will prompt them to return to the studio to begin work on a new album.
She tells Billboard.com, "We've talked about it for years. It's one of those ongoing conversations. I was thinking about how few records we actually have made in our 33 years and how we could be doing a lot better. Because the Go-Go's isn't a full-time band anymore and the fact we've scattered over the whole world, it makes it really hard to commit to things like making records. "Having said that, now that the interwebs (sic) are so big and people release one song at a time...
the structure of making music has become less rigid.
So I'd like to think that, yes, we will have new music coming". She reveals that bandmates Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine have written a new song, adding, "It's good, and if we get our act together to learn it, we might perform it in concert". The Go-Gos last release, God Bless the Go-Gos, came a decade ago, but anew remastered version of their Beauty and the Beat debut will be released on 17 May (11). The group's Ladies Gone Wild tour begins in Pennsylvania on 29 May (11). The band had to scrap a planned farewell tour last summer (10) when Wiedlin injured her knees. She insists this upcoming tour will not be a farewell to fans "Over the course of a year everyone just started re-thinking that idea and ultimately we decided we shouldn't say it's a farewell tour this year".
