Heather Mills enjoyed a smashing birthday - after she drove her $64,000 (£40,000) car into a parking lot bollard.

The ex-wife of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, who lost her left legin a road accident in 1993, is currently starring in U.K. reality show Dancing On Ice.

She rushed out of rehearsals for the series on Tuesday (12Jan10) to celebrate her 42nd birthday - but her celebrations got off to a bad start asshe pulled out of a parking lot and smashed her luxury Lotus straight into a post, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

She got out of the car and saw the damage she's done and was livid

A source says, "Heather came out of the ice rink carrying her skating leg and jumped into the car. She must have forgotten that she was parked in front of a post and just charged straight into it. She was pretty shocked as it was quite a bump. She got out of the car and saw the damage she's done and was livid. It was her birthday, so no doubt that made her extra angry.

"Fortunately the car was not a write-off so she was able to prise the smashed-up bumper off and stick it in the back of her motor. She drove off looking really embarrassed, which is fair enough given how embarrassing the accident was".
