Il Divo Pipped For No1 Album By G4

The debut album by quartet G4 has gone straight in at number one, overcoming their disappointment at losing on talent show X-Factor.The news of their success was unveiled during a revamped BBC Radio 1 chart rundown, hosted by DJs JK and Joel, who have taken over from Wes Butters as part of a shake-up at the station.The first of the new look singles charts was led by Stereophonics with Dakota, which went debuted at number one and knocked Nelly to number two. Elvis Presley's Rock-a-Hula Baby entered at number three as his record company continue to roll out new releases of his hits every week. Presley now has three singles in the top 40.G4, whose style is described as pop opera, started their musical career busking on the streets of London before entering ITV's X-Factor but were narrowly pipped in the contest by Steve Brookstein.Another pop opera group Il Divo's eponymous album shot back up to number two in the chart which coincided with Mother's Day, while Tony Christie, who first found fame in the 1970s, has seen his greatest hits climb to number three.Although he has been performing for more than three decades, it was comedian Peter Kay's use of the hit Amarillo in Phoenix Nights that has bought him cult status and a new audience.

The Carpenters' Greatest Hits was at number four, followed by the Scissors Sisters at five.
