Il Divo’s Promise grabs number one spot

Il Divo have beaten mainstream indie kids Stereophonics to the number one spot with their delicious new album The Promise.

The beautiful quartet have topped the charts for a third time thanks to a helping hand from their creator, music mogul Simon Cowell.

The guys beat off stiff competition from Welsh rockers Stereophonics, who had to be be content with a number two placing for their Greatest Hits compilation Decade In The Sun.

However, Simon Cowell isn’t finished with the charts there, as his influence is felt in the UK singles chart as with The X Factor finalists' charity track Hero continues it’s reign over the singles charts.

The album has been a long time coming too, as it has been two years since their last release, Siempre, reached which reached number two in the album chart whilst their previous albums, Il Divo and Ancora, in 2004 and 2005 respectively, both reached number one.

Girls Aloud's Out of Control falls to number three, with Kings of Leon's Only By The Night rising to number four and Pink's Funhouse slipping to number five.

Irish singer Enya's And Winter Came is a new entry at number six, while Christina Aguilera's best-of compilation, Keeps Gettin' Better, makes its debut at number 10.

In the singles chart, US rapper TI's collaboration with Rihanna, Live Your Life, enters the top 10 at number two, while Killers have a new entry with Human at number four.
