Jennifer Hudson's fiance may have inadvertently saved her life when he urged her to delay a trip home to Chicago, Illinois and visit him in Florida instead.
The Oscar-winning singeractress would have been at home with her mother and brother when they were murdered in October, 2008, had it not been for a call from wrestler David Otunga.
I could have been home with my mom then
In quotes attributed to Hudson in a Globe article, the Dreamgirls star says, "I was literally picking up my bags to walk out the door to go to my mother's house and he called me, like, 'Can you come out here instead of going...?' And I was like, 'OK, sure.'
"That one decision, that one thing...I wouldn't be sitting here... I could have been home with my mom then... I flew out to see him (Otunga) - that's why I'm still here".
Hudson was in Tampa with Otunga when she heard the news that her mother Darnell Donerson and brother Jason had been shot dead in the home they shared.
The body of the singer's seven-year-old nephew, Julian King, was found days later in an abandoned SUV.
William Balfour, the ex-husband of the star's sister Julia, is currently on trial for the murders. Hudson testified on the opening day last month (Apr12).
